FAIRCHILD OAK

In Ormond Beach, Florida, the plaque at the base of this ancient live oak says it is over 2000 years old.  Other sources estimate 400 - 800.  Either way, it is an amazing sight to behold.  It is immense, even though it bears the scars of time having lost many of its huge moss and fern covered limbs over the centuries.  One such limb, severed from the trunk by man, has become a separate tree by rooting itself where it once draped to the ground.  This painting has been mounted on a hardboard "mat" which has been knife-painted a grey green, creating a lovely border to compliment the painting.  Gallery price includes a beautiful high-quality frame.  Chosen for the cover of Ormond Magazine!
